✨ Nigel – fresh off the track and ready for his next chapter ✨

Please welcome our newest addition to the gang – Nigel, a very smart 17hh, 7-year-old gelding who has only just hung up his racing plates.

In fact, I watched him run his final race at Bangor-on-Dee on the 18th of April… and knowing his owner, I quietly hoped I might get that phone call. Sure enough, a couple of weeks later, Nigel made his way down from Olly Murphy’s yard to begin life beyond racing.

And what a lovely horse he is.

Nigel has mainly run over hurdles, with a couple of chase runs as well, and now retires sound, sane, and with a completely clean slate—no vices, no historic medical issues, and a very straightforward outlook on life.

He’s a beautifully put together gelding with athletic movement and a genuinely good brain. The sort that looks like he was built with a second career in mind. He’s still very much a fit racehorse at present, so will need a knowledgeable and suitable home to continue his transition correctly.

But the potential is all there.

He’s a lovely mover with event horse written all over him—scopey, balanced, and with the attitude to match. For someone looking for a quality summer project with a view to the upcoming season, Nigel could be a very exciting one to produce.

On the ground, he’s straightforward and sensible, and so far has taken everything in his stride as he begins to adjust to his new routine.
